Vaddi vyapari bharya – originally by Dostoevsky – Telugu translation by Aluri Bhujanga Rao

Dostoevsky was a world-renowned Soviet writer. He was born in 1821 in Moscow to a poor doctor’s family. The oppression of people under the monarchy’s tyranny, along with rampant corruption and inhumanity, shaped him into a writer. In almost all his works, the protagonists are thieves, robbers, drunkards, and murderers—characters deeply entrenched in corruption.

Dostoevsky endured immense hardships in his life. Everywhere he went, he faced humiliation and injustice. Just a month after his marriage, creditors threatened him with imprisonment, leaving him with no choice but to flee Russia in 1867. During his exile, he wrote *The Idiot*, a novel that has since been translated into almost every major language worldwide. However, his turbulent life eventually led him to lose faith in people, driving him into despair and pessimism.

At that time, the Tsarist government feared his writings and attempted to suppress them. Dostoevsky was even sentenced to death, but due to massive public outrage, the execution was halted, and he was given a severe punishment instead. Despite this, he never wavered. Even in his final days, he continued to wield his sharp pen until he passed away in 1881.

We are delighted to announce that Bala Books Publications is reprinting *Vaddi Vyapari Bharya* , a short novel written by Dostoevsky and translated into Telugu by Aluri Bhujanga Rao. We look forward to bringing this classic back to our readers!
